Comments: Trying my best to play 1080p movies. They are BD rips. I am pretty sure my computer can handle the transcoding. I am thinking there is not enough buffer time. The max rate is usually around 17 . I've changed the max bandwidth from 10 to 15 to 20 and higher too. The playback starts to stutter when the video rate is around 12mbps too. Can I not do 1080p movies? Are my settings all wrong? Thanks if advance.

Why is that? If wireless g is 54mbps it should be more than enough. Is it a software limitation in this case?

That's a big if... ;)
Standard throughput for Wifi-G is around 15mbps, even at full signal strength.

So I pretty much would need to run a cable from my router to my PS3 to play the 1080p movies?

Yup. If possible connect everything so you have a gigabit network instead of 100Base-T, otherwise you still may get stuttering depending on which 1080p you're watching. You can stress test your connection with some of the files located in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=322

Alright. The thing that boggles me is that the stream is usually less than 10mbps. It looks great like that too. Is there a setting I overlooked that would help control that? Does it have to do with the keyint, vqmax, vqmin and/or vqscale? What is the keyint anyway?
