MKVs, Subs and MEncoder (Won't Play)

Postby meowth » Sat Sep 14, 2013 4:19 am

Hi,

I have the latest version of PS3 Media Server and I'm trying to get MKV files with 1 audio stream to play with subtitles. I haven't been able to get the MKVs to play at all unless I go into the Transcode folder and use the VLC encoder. However, the VLC encoder doesn't display the subtitles. (They're embedded.) I tried extracting the subtitles, chucking them into the same folder with the appropriate filenames (same as the video I'm trying to play, AND a copy with .eng attached inbetween the filename and the file extension) to no avail. Using MEncoder comes up with the error that says it's an unsupported file format. None of the encoders except VLC seem to be capable of playing MKVs. I've seen lots of threads posted with similar issues, but not both, and I'm wondering if there's anything that I can do to fix this.
