Ver 1.90.1 Problem with Too Many Files in a Folder

Postby gray46 » Wed Sep 04, 2013 10:02 pm

What started as a stuttering problem caused by the Java heap space out of memory has turned out to be a problem with a large number of files in one folder. I had been accessing a folder with more than 100 video files. Even after doubling the maximum limit of the Java heap space it would fail after playing four videos (see my previous post: Ver 1.90.1 Java Heap Space Problem w/Debug Log). I reorganized my videos into sub-folders with no more than a dozen files in each. Now the problem has gone away. I have no idea what exact number of files will cause the problem. This is not a major issue, but prior to Version 1.90.0 which did not have Java bundled in it was not a problem. It would be nice to have a fix though.

I'm not sure the bundling of Java has anything to do with it. PMS could use some threads and memory profiling, as it is not optimized at the moment (gotta love euphemisms).
