PS3 cannot see server, when Windows firewall is on

Postby izo » Tue Apr 07, 2009 5:16 am

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, 3GB RAM, Windows 7
WiFi, Linksys router

When I have the Windows firewall on, the program cannot find the PS3 and vice versa. When I disable the firewall temporarily, the PS3 sees it and everything works perfectly. However, due to security issues, I don't want to turn off the firewall.

I had TVersity before, and it worked fine through the firewall, but of course I didn't like TVersity. This program is much much better!

I tried to add the program to the allowed list, and run it as administrator, nothing worked :(

Any help appreciated.
thank you

Add javaw.exe and wrapper.exe to the firewall's allowed list.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

Hi,

I had a similar problem when moving to Windows Firewall. However, the above suggestion *did* help me.... I would suggest adding the javaw and wrapper to the firewall exceptions and then try running the PS3 Media Server as a service. That's what I was actually trying to achieve anyway (looks like it was the lack of wrapper that was the problem.)

However, in the past I have found the service option has been much more reliable in keeping the server visible to the PS3.

Fantastic software though - has made my PS3 the centre of my home entertainment system! :-)

cheers,

Sean

I had the same problem as you izo... but i just solved it by adding the following ports to the exceptionlist in Windows Firewall:

* TCP port 5001
* UDP port 5001

After that it works just fine with the firewall turned on :D

** Of course i've already added pms.exe, javaw.exe and wrapper.exe to the exceptionlist...
