Movies keeps stuttering, Me going NUTS

Postby Curiosity » Thu Apr 11, 2013 10:27 am

Hello,

I'm going nuts here :? . I have been using PMS for a while, but always had problems. some 720p movies, stutter, but after the bufferbar was full the movie played fine. until buffer was depledded. after reading on the forum it is possible to stream 1080p movies, without any stutter, i'm trying to get the settings right for me.
But with no luck, watching isn't even possible anymore. need help, what am i doing wrong or what setting is wrong?
i'm using: PC wired to Bravia TV and wireless to PS3
PC:
Windows Vista
Pentium Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz
1.60Ghz, 2gb RAM, Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family
Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)

TV: BRAVIA KDL-32EX500
has an estimated network speed of: 78 Mb/s

PS3: PS3

Used possible every setting
keyint=1:vqscale=1:vqmin=2 .etc with different numbers, Maxed buffer from 0 to 600mb, Audio channels etc, changed max bandwith, setting media server and TV/PS3 to connect to the network at 100Mbps half duplex. etc etc.

Files i am trying to stream are moslty .MKV
used mkv2vob to chop them in smaller sizes and then stream. placed them on a USB(fat32) stick in PS3. Black screen .

i'm out of  's

Then you should have noticed the first item in that post regarding the minimum requirements. A 1.6GHz dual core isn't going to be sufficient for transcoding 1080P and probably some 720P, especially under a constrained bandwidth. You need to follow the suggestions in the FAQ for setting proper bandwidth and video quality values (1-1-2 is really not going to work for you), or you'll need to convert your files (outside of PMS) so you're not transcoding.

I'd have to agree with meskibob. I stream 1080p 5.1DTS movies all the time without issue, and my peak bandwidth usually hits around 120-140Mb/s. 78Mb/s is just not going to cut it.

Currently I have issues streaming videos with 7.1 DTS and super hi-res video, but I think that's a buffer setting. Not sure... anyway, all that to say your system just won't handle it. You can change quality settings as mentioned above, or stick with lower res files.

I was able to stream 720p as long as the buffer was full. What are the minimum end maximum settings for proper bandwidth and video quality values, so i can see what's working for me. The peak bandwidth of 78mb/s is my TV

Also tryed using MKV2Vob, but some files give me a "mkv2vob unsupported subtitle format" error.

I used to have the same issue, it's not because of PMS. I found out it came from the latest Java update (1.7.0.21). You need to go back to version 1.7.0.17 ;-)
