audio popping and crackling while streaming video

So, I did a search for this problem on here and found a few threads where people were asking for help, but didn't see any answers found.

The problem: While streaming AVI, MKV files from my computer through my PS3 to my Denon receiver, there are horrible audio popping/crackling sounds whenever bass is present. I know it's not the amp as this doesn't happen when watching regular dvd video or regular tv programs. It's happening to the point that I'm concerned I'm going to wreck my speakers. I've turned off the subwoofer to make sure that wasn't the problem, but it's still coming through the center channel.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on here?

I'm using:
PC with Windows 7 connected to PS3 via ethernet
PS3 Media connected to Denon 1713 amp via hdmi

Not sure what other info would help, but if I'm missing anything please advise.
