PS3 cannot see PMS and vice versa

Postby Bernard » Wed Jan 23, 2013 9:34 pm

Xpsp3 running latest ver of PMS wired into router. Ps3 is wireless and can access internet

PMS starts up ok and i can stream to my iphone and ipad apps
But the PS3 cannot see the PMS and vice versa

I have installed Tversity and it works fine and shows up on PS3 so there shd be no problem with router and ps3 settings. I have currently disabled it so that is not interfering with PMS.

There shd also be no prob with PMS since I can stream to my iDevices.

However, cannot stream to PS3 as PS3 searching for Media Servers cannot see PMS

For the two reply posters, please follow the FAQ - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3507&start=20#p34933
If you are still having issues, please start your own thread and provide specific responses to the help points listed.

For the OP, to clarify, PMS on one machine can stream to some devices but not your PS3, and TVersity installed on that same machine can stream to your PS3?
Provided that understanding is correct, the only thing I can think of is a software firewall rule specifically blocking either port 5001 (or whichever port you're using) or javaw.exe from communicating with specifically the PS3's IP address. What happens if you disable your firewall(s)?
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

Yes that is correct. With PMS running om my computer I can see it on my iPad apps but it does not show up on the actual PS3 on the same network.

Yes, Tversity running on the same computer is visible in the PS3 and can stream to it.

If the firewall was blocking the port or javaw.exe, then how come PMS is showing up on my iPad/iphone. If the port was blocked or the javaw was blocked then would it not also be blocked always and not show up on the iPad?

Again, you can typically block communications from a port or application to all IP addresses or you can block specific addresses. It may be that you have a general rule blocking all traffic to your PS3, but you have an exemption for TVersity. The easiest way to confirm if there is some sort of firewall configuration issue is to temporarily disable the firewall for testing.

I was having a similar issue, computer was wired would not connect to PS3 but a wireless computer would connect to a ps3. After weeks of not figuring it out it ended up being a problem with my router. Do you have Fios by any chance? I was able to fix this by going and disabling IGMP proxy in the router settings.

Hope this helps it has been bugging me for a while...
