Looking for an avi to mp4 transcoder or something like that

I knrow it sounds super vague, but basically, MEncoder is having problems transcoding avi files for iPad. I am able to play mp4 files seamlessly if I just don't transcode those, but transcoding avi files seems to be problematic.

Could anyone point me towards an mp4 transcoder and how I can use that transcoder instead of MEncoder?

You could try shuffling the order of the Video File Engines on the "Transcoding Settings" tab: e.g. click "FFmpeg", then the blue arrow pointing up at the bottom twice.

Alternatively, I found the application Handbrake useful for converting videos to an iPad compatible format.
