upgrade issue

I upgraded to the new version 1.72 now all my files have mencoder next to them some of them don't play the ones that do play tend to jerk and then it skips to the next file.

I am running ubuntu 12.04 with about a Gb of Ram ona 1gb network. i am in the process of upgrading the ram. This is a completely new install.

Any help would be appreciated.
