Help getting PMS to start.

Postby hypotenoose » Wed May 23, 2012 10:14 pm

Hi,

Here are the specification for my computer:

1) Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q660 @2.40GHz
2) PMS 1.52.1
3) 4 GB Memory
4) Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1
5) Streaming to PS3
6) PC -> (Wired) D-Link Gb (switch) -> (Wired) Dell PowerConenct 2716 (switch) -> Cisco Linksys E2000 -> PS3 --- All wired with Cat 5e and Gb ports
7) MEncoder
8) I inadvertently uninstalled JVM from my PC. PMS failed. I re-installed JVM 7. PMS stilled failed with error in debug log. I then upgraded to 1.52 of PMS. Same failure listed in debug log.
9) MediaInfo runs fine against .mkv files, etc.
10) Debug Log Snippet. Sorry I attempted to save as text file and upload, but it would not accept it. I do not have a license for WinZip.

**** I attempted to force the IP and this did not work. ****

Did I do something wrong with my request? I am happy to supply more information. I have been using PMS for 3 years. My family and I have been extremely happy with the product.

Are you sure there is only one PMS running?
Sometimes the Java process isn't terminated properly and you'll have to kill the old process manually.

See the FAQ: I cannot see PMS from my DLNA client!, especially the "PMS cannot bind to the IP-address or port on the network interface" bit.

Yes Raptor I checked for other Java processes. Also, I tried relevant suggestions in FAQ related to "cannot bind to the IP", without any success. I am at a loss.

"Caused by: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind"

Did you uninstall the previous version of PMS before installing the new version?
I would suggest changing your port and see if the same error occurs. This will clear up if the port is actually being used up by something.

Thanks hor chiming in StufF. I did not uninstall PMS before upgrading. Also, I have tested changing the port and get the same error. Do you recommend I uninstall PMS and do a fresh install of the latest release?

Yeh, I don't think there's ever been an "upgrade" procedure for PMS and full uninstall/reinstall has been the recommended procedure for new installs (correct me if I'm wrong). Try to get it as clean as possible, remove the PMS folder/config files before reinstall.

Yeh, As far as I remember PMS has never had an "upgrade" procedure.
You've always had to uninstall before re installing the new version, I'd recommended to try whatever you can to get to a fresh install. i.e. delete PMS folder after uninstall, double check services/start up systems, get rid of config files.

I uninstalled/re-installed PMS. Tried forcing ports 5001-5004. They all failed with the same error (with no other applications running). Port 5005 succeeded!
