Problems with Crashing since 1.50?

Hi there,

I've bee using PS3MS for ages and recently had no problems with it whatsoever. since upgrading to 1.50 i find its crashing on my PC an awful lot, very often about 30 minutes into the avi I'm streaming to my PS3. Theres no error code on the PC or bluescreen etc, it just stops working. I've not changed anything else. Occasionally on the PS3 I'll get a DLNA error when the service dies.

Can someone help me either problem solve or recommend what they think is going wrong? is there an error log anywhere thats generated when crashes occur?

Finding it really frustrating with the kids as their favourite films are now not available

Try defragmenting the drive and doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of Java. See here for details.

Okay still no luck so here we go...

1. Computer Specs – Running an Intel Quad Core Q6700 @ 2.66GHz with 3 Gb of RAM. PMS is running version 1.52.0. Build cd2046057 (2012-03-22)
2. Streaming to a PS3 with no customised rendering profile.
3. Running a wired 100mbit Ethernet cconnection through my SKY router which I believe is a rebranded DLink router. i.e. PC – 100mbit Ethernet- Dlink Router – 100Mbit Ethernet – PS3
4. Not transcoding anything
5. The GUI works fine, and the movies stream fine to my PS3 whether theyre AVI, MKV etc. But after about half an hour the video stream stops and I get kicked out back to the PS3 menu (still inside the PMS generated menu) but the service stops working. If I go back to the PS3 then PMS has crashed with no obvious errors. I’ve updated my java as well as PMS.

There's nothing obvious in the debug.log. Try looking for an hs_err file (see the comments for Windows locations).

Wel...cr*p. Short of what looks like a complete reformat there doesnt seem to be an end to this issue. Not a simple one anyway. I might try and put the media drive and software on somthing like a small thin client and run it from there. might seem easier. I really hate it when issues like this crop up.

Hi All,

So I've gone through the jdownloader posts and nothing there was incredibly helpful to be honest.

What I've managed to rule out is:

Its NOT to do with the versions od PMS or Java that i've got. theyre up to date
Its NOT that Im using wireless
Its nothing to do with the router
Its NOT helped by putting the PS3 into the DMZ
Its NOT to do with low disk space (28gb free (defragmented should be fine yes?)

Short of a complete rebuild of the PC what else can we do here? It seems like this DLNA 2104 error is getting bigger all the time and has never really been addressed.

The posts are very relevant (same crash as you are experiencing) and raise some interesting issues to verify on your own system.

Thing is: the crash occurs in "msvcrt.dll", which is a part of Windows. It is very unlikely that PMS can cause a crash that deep in the system, plus if it did, the forums would be full of similar reports.

Time to verify what changed since you started getting these crashes. E.g., did you change Java versions (upgrade from Java 6 to Java 7)?
Also notice that the last poster had to remove a trojan to get things working again.

Okay so Whatve I done since my last post:

I've updated the drivers on my Marvell Yukon 8 series gigabit NIC card
I removed AVG FRee and have installed Microsoft Security Essentials instead and one a full viurs sweep of my pC and there was nothing there at all.

Problem seems to still be there - gets to the 25 minute or so mark and then bombs out on me. again
