29.970fps xvid mkv video playing too fast with MEncoder

Hi everyone. First time poster long time lurker

I've been trying to play a XVID/OGG MKV with subtitles. The FPS is 29.970 and it plays fine on my PC. Transcoding it through PMS causes the video framerate to be too fast.

I am transcoding it over 802.11G wifi but I have the video quality adjusted to:
keyint=25:vqmax=8:vqmin=3 /* Low quality, Low-end CPU or HD Wifi Transcoding */

the log shows everything fine playing. I can play .avi files just fine but these MKV's are the only problems I'm having. I've tried with the checkmark for "A/V sync alternate method" both on and off as well as FFMpeg one and combinations of both don't help.

I have a E4400 @ 3.0ghz with 2GB of RAM on XP 32bit. This should be enough PC to transcode I'm sure.

it's fixed in next version
meanwhile, you can try to add this line in expert settings:

container == matroska && framerate == 29.97 :: -mc 0.1

Thanks for the reply shagrath. Not often the project lead replys on forums

I tried your advanced option and it didn't seem to help with .51. The video is actually playing faster, and it seems the buffer exhausted itself as the video abruptly ended.

Thanks. It's closer to being in sync but the video is still slightly faster. I'm tinkering and will post if I find something that works but i'll be checking this thread for any other help.

change the framerate to 23.976 and see if that helps

nope, sorry. still the same.

i'm actually getting okay results with Avisynth/MEncoder. It's only a very very small fraction off. However the overhead is a lot more on my PC
