Problem: Movie picture gets stretched!, instead you want 16:9 with borders.

Solution: Note: this goes for transcoding with MEncoder only.
1. In PMS gui, go to transcoding tab
2. Select the mencoder settings
3. Click the button: "Expert Settings : Codec-specific parameters"
4. In the bottom inputfield insert following:

Code: Select all
(width/height < 1.7 || width/height > 1.8) :: -vf expand=::::1:16/9

5. Click "OK" to close the window.
6. Click "Save" in PMS top menu.

When I follow this instruction after saving it and trying to play the movie from MEncoder, I just get a black screen. If i delete the change and save it again then the movie displays.....I am using PS3 Media server 1.52.1

PSM is finding the chocolatey plugin but its giving me an error:

[main] INFO 18:23:57.975 Searching for plugins in C:\Program Files (x86)\PS3 Media Server\plugins
[main] INFO 18:23:58.117 Found plugin: com.chocolatey.pmsencoder.Plugin
[main] INFO 18:23:58.223 PMSEncoder: initializing PMSEncoder 1.6.1

[main] INFO 18:24:01.143 Configuration error: net/pms/encoders/PlayerFactory

What should I do now?

Also .. All I want is to display my laptop webcam on my LG TV, is using the PSM the way to go?

Many thanks for this great tool!

Quick question before I try to get PMS installed and working, as an alternative to the streaming in Windows Media Centre:

Can PMS stream native WMC files (DVR-MS and WTV) or do I have to translate everything in my library to some other format (eg MP4, AVI, TS, MKV) in order for it to be able to stream it and for the PS3 to be able to play it?

It's a great shame the PS3 doesn't provide nice simple client access to a Windows shared folder (so as to list all the files in any sub-folder that you select) and then the ability natively to play WMC files formats - in the way that a Windows PC with VLC or WMC can act as a client.

I'm french so sorry for my english.

I notice a problem in the FAQ about the number of cores and the threads don't count.
I have a processor i3, 2 cores 4 threads.

PS3 media server shows "I think you have 4 cores" but i put "2 cores" because of FAQ. And my processor run to 65%-70%, the buffer of PMS are often empty with 1080p for example a bitrate of 48mb/s.

And i try with "4 cores" like PMS show. And my processor run to 85-90% and the buffer are quickly, and everything is good.

So if you have the same problem, it can be resolved.

Q: Where are the PMS config, log, database files etc. located?

A: The actual locations are listed in the first lines of output on the Traces tab in the GUI and the debug.log.
Most files are, by default, in the application working directory (usually the application install directory - OSX see * below), but there are a couple external locations as well:

Profile Directory
Note that the ProgramData and AppData folders are hidden. Open Windows Explorer and either paste the above path into the address bar or show hidden folders to browse it.
Linux &c.
~/Library/Application Support/PMS
Note that in OSX Lion the users "Library" folder is invisible. Use the "Go to Folder" command (CMD + SHIFT + G in Finder) and paste the path to browse it.

Temp Directory
System temp directory\ps3mediaserver

Specific default locations:
The "PMS.conf" and "WEB.conf" files are located in the Profile directory listed above.
The .bat/.sh files are located in the application working directory.
The logback.xml file is located in the application working directory.
Renderer config files, plugins, and database files are located in subdirectories of the application working directory.
Logfiles are typically found in the application working directory or the Temp directory listed above.

I followed this but found no web.conf file, only a pms.conf file, am I to create this file or dl it from some place. please help

The default WEB.conf can be found in the code on GitHub.

There is also a rather large topic for Audio and Video streams that contains many examples.
