mp3 streaming to receiver

I've connected the ps3 to my marantz 5003 receiver, but whenever I tried playing mp3 I see 5.1 channel instead of stereo and my sub-woofer isn't kicked in. I know this may not be related to PS3MS just wondering if anyone with similar setup could share some tips. Cheers!
