Really odd java error, choppy playback, limited 1Mb/sec???

Hi, having a really odd problem with PMS 1.4/Windows. It seems that no matter what I've tried, I get horribly stuttered playback on mkv or other transcoded files.

THIS message keeps coming up:

[pool-10-thread-2] INFO 01:12:52.018 Exception in thread "pool-10-thread-2" java.lang.NullPointerException

I thought it may have to do with some sort of java runtime configuration error, but i uninstalled, then reinstalled both 32 and 64bit versions.

Just FYI, I have another machine on the same gigabit wired network, and it does not have this error in the debug log.

Also, looking at the "transcoding buffer status" it says peak bitrate of 1-2Mb/sec! Something isnt right here, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Nevermind, turns out it was a bad NIC driver...the stupid ASUS website has an old one that apparently has some sort of bug. Too bad I didnt figure it out till I set about reinstalling Windows from scratch. GRRR.

Glad that fixed it for you.

Still, the NullPointerException should not have occurred. Fixed in r996.

NP at all...Strangely enough, when I reinstalled Windows, that Null Pointer error had disappeared, and it never showed up on the 2nd computer I used...not sure it was ever a bug in the software itself, just something screwy with my Java install or something?

As for the original issue...

It was rather odd that the NIC was the problem though---I had no problems at all transferring files from the old computer to the new at normal gigabit speeds---no dropouts or anything----nor any problems with the internet. The only reason I figured out it must be the NIC causing problems was by installing Wild Media Server and Mezzmo, and having the same problems transcoding---stuttering (and dropped playback on WMS).

Anyways, thanks for a wonderful product!
