What resolution am I streaming at?

Hi, my TV's resolution is 720p (hope to upgrade soon), but I got some movies that were encoded as 1080p. When I stream them to my PS3, is the stream 1080p or 720p? Does PS3 Media Center have a way of detecting my screen resolution from the PS3? If not, can I change some setting so that it transcodes to 720p?

I'm new to the whole idea of transcoding, so I apologize if I'm way off here.

probably streaming at 1080p but it wont look any better than a 720p (as your TV is 720p)
if it runs fine i say just leave it
