Upgraded pc, downgraded server response

Postby icedtorch » Thu Oct 27, 2011 11:58 pm

Hi, I used to use the ps3 server with my slower machine ( one gig of ram only, windows xp, etc) but after I upgraded to a intel i3-2100 with 3.10ghz with 4 gigs of ram and windows 7, everything turns out choppy or just wont run.

Im using the pms version 1.50.0.
Could you guys help me figure out what is wrong with the new server and how to fix it? English is not my first language so bear with me.

The following is a snippet from the log when I tried to run a video , any other videos( even ones that worked perfectly before) all give out the same freezing frame proble, skipping and extremely choppy.

Code: Select all

more details, im using a Pirelli router and there is a thin wall between the wireless router and the ps3, this however shouldnt be a problem since it worked fine before.

If I can supply any more data that might help out, please say so and I will try to provide it the best I can.
Thanks!

I am sorry for double posting but this had zero replies and was already on the second page.
Is there anything I can add that makes it easier to tell me what is going on?

I had this problem recently also, the PC that I used for streaming via PMS suddenly gets all stuttering and choppy for no reason
I tried different stuff and finally narrowed it down to my NIC driver that get updated via windows update automatically.

I used my other lousier PC (netbook, 800Mhz with 1GB ram) and it plays smoothly, and this confirmed the problem lies at the PC.
I tried to change the port connected on router, changed the ip address, change network cable, none of it helped.
So, it final frustration, I went to device manager and uninstalled the NIC device driver, and choose complete delete,
went and download the driver from official website, did a clean driver reinstall and reboot.
The streaming now works like it did perfectly as before, 1080p without any hiccup or stuttering.

I wished someone posted similar solution at the FAQ below, so that I could have try this solution, it took me one week to reach this final solution

First of all, thank you for your reply.

That sounds like it could be it, im running a realtek pci GBE family controller,
what was the date of the version you installed? Im only finding 2011 versions for the windows 7 one.

edit: i backtracked a couple of versions and its so far working out properly, once again, thank you .

Possibly my problem may help trace the difficulties described in this thread.
I am running ps3 mediaserver on several computers in a gigabit network connected to Sony Bravia 5500 Series (no playstation).
Until version 1.21.0 replay of HD videos (TRANSCODE > TsMuxer) worked perfectly. After upgrading to 1.30, 1.40, 1:50 beta this was no longer possible with TsMuxer or any other engine - only AviSynth/FFmpeg worked irregularly and started stuttering after a while. Reinstalling 1.21 helped only if the folder with the PSM.conf has been erased before.
The computers on which PS3 Mediaserver was / is running and where exactly the same problem occurred:
Intel Core2 Quad 2.83 GHz 8 GB Win7 (64)
Pentium Dual Core 2.7 GB 2 GB Vista (32)
Intel Core 2 2,4 GHz 2GB Win XP (SP3)
and a few similar ones.
This seems to prove that computer or network is not responsible for the described problem.
