Postby killachaos » Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:12 am

I am trying to stream a VC-1 (.wmv) file over Wi-Fi.

you need to transcode the whole file, as ps3 does not recognize some wma tracks
but before trying, you have to know that transcode 1080p videos on wireless is quite impossible...

"AUDIO_CODEC 0x0162 (Windows Media Audio 9 Professional)"

If I can remember right this is WMAPro3 audio track which is close to very very annoying and not-supported in open source projects. Specs are not published, but some vlc/ffmpeg coders made a preliminary reverse engineering. PS3 definitely does not natively play it.

MeGUI tool can convert VC-1/WMAPro3 files to AVC/AAC mpeg4. Its using the following steps.
faac.exe: extract WMAPro3 audio track to .m4a file
x264.exe with a help of AviSynth script: extract VC-1 video track to .mp4 file
mp4box.exe: mux .m4a and .mp4 together to produce a final AVC/AAC video file

I've had this happen with other formats such as m2ts. It played audio & video fine sing VLC but would not play sound on PS3.

The way I fixed it was demuxing the .m2ts file using TsMuxer, then using a command line in eac3to to extract the DTS -core. Sometimes you have to extract the AC3 out of the dts -core. Then go into TsMuxer and remux the file.

eac3to command to convert DTS to AC3 would look like this - assuming the audio file is named audio.dts
Code: Select all
eac3to audio.dts audio.ac3

Or whatever audio format you begin with (assuming it may not be DTS) It still comes across in surround sound 5.1 and is in sync.

You can also pick the encoder you want to use or let eac3to use whatever it feels it needs.

I don't know what all options are available in the .wmv but maybe it will help.
