Media Server won't find my PS3

I hope someone can help.. I hear this program is wonderful..

Sadly it won't find my PS3, whatever I try.

The log states:

And that's it. The main screen says: "Contacting PS3..." and just sits there in silence.

I've tried reinstalling, tried the older version, re-tried the newer version.

The PS3 can see my PC (I've been browsing my Windows Media Player files on the PS3).. so I'm confident the principles are working fine.. the networking seems OK.. yet it just won't find my PS3. It doesn't even seem to be trying to find it based on the log info. I'm running Vista btw. My windows firewall is disabled. I can't see anything listening on port 5001 if I do netstat -a. I've even tried running as administrator, although my Vista doesn't require this.

Any suggestions? I've looked at other peoples logs and they seem to get much more activity before hitting problems. Mine stops right after temp folder.

Stops there. Is it possible my VLC is the problem?

After doing some investigation, the problem would appear to be VLC.

vlc.exe is being launched as a process (I can see it in the processes list).. infact I had about 15 vlc.exe due to all the attempts.

So cleared them all and tried again, and vlc.exe appeared again.. and still no success.

It's VLC 0.9.8a. Should I perhaps uninstall it?

Ok so if I kill VLC in the processes list, it works and finds the PS3 immediately.. so it would appear it's hanging on this VLC. Maybe it's the version? It's quite new.

Otherwise, it has now found the PS3 so I'm happy. Thank you for your awesome support and app!!
