Hi,
I've been running PS3MS on XP with verying levels of success, but nevertheless having video files converted by mkv2ps to delivered to PS3 by PS3MS.
Recently (that is, two days ago) I got a new computer with Windows 7 (64-bit). I've installed only WIN7, Chrome browser, mkv2ps and SMPlayer there. Next in line was to get PS3MS working again. I imagined that all that I needed was the PS3 Media Server 1.52.1 installation .exe and Java SE 7u4 JRE, install those, configure the directory in PS3MS from which the videos are shared, and I'd be good to go. And this I did: click on PS3MS install .exe, install that, get Java JRE, install, done. And everything should be fine?
Well, this was not so. PS3MS started ok, PS3 found the server, I could browse to the video file that mkv2ps had procuded ... but I couldn't play it. When I started it, it took some time, then it played for 2 seconds, stopped for some 30 seconds, played for 2 secs, etc. I tried also to copy the file to PS3 via PS3MS, but that got stuck in 0%.
Finally, I just copied the media file via USB stick from the PC to PS3, and it played perfectly.
So, either there's a flaw somewhere, or my inital assumption that "all I need is PS3MS installation package and JRE" is wrong, and I need to install (and configure?) something else. Do I need some codecs (which ones?), some software (what sw? How should they be configured?).
Can someone help me out with this?
I can make a proper report of this with all the logs etc. attached, but before doing that, I just want to make sure that whether my initial assumption was correct or wrong. And if there are some pre-requisites for PS3MS, other than JRE, I think that they should be mentioned somewhere in the instructions.
br,
Mikko
