Is it possible to add a feature that allows one to capture an image and save to the internal hard disk or other media.

If there is no PS3 XMB command available then impossible. After all, this is just DLNA media file distributor and anything else on UI side is solely PS3 operating system issues. Sony is the one to add features to XMB menus.
