PS3 Media Server

I have analog 5.1 multichannel sound system, connected to my PC. And only 2.0 stereo speaker system connected to my PS3. So, when I'm playing multichannel video on my PS3 with current setup, I can hear only stereo sound. It will be great, to have an option to play sound on the computer. In this case there is no need to buy an expensive digital receiver. What do you think about this?

I think it would be impossible to keep video and audio in proper sync.

LinuxMCE has this feature. But they have pure linux on both computers.

Yeah, thats part of my point, you can send the data to the PS3 but you will not have enough control over the PS3 playback. I guess that the PS3 also have some caching of streaming content.

But what if that caching delay is constant? Is there any way to check that?
