launch in background

It would be stellar if once configured I could launch it from command line w/a script at boot and it demonize to background, this way it starts up w/out a user having to login and since the task tray icon is broken in OSX I wouldn't have to look at it running all the time.

perhaps dump status information to a pipe file and we can create a native "monitoring" app that fits friendly into OSX

This should be possible in theory, I could adapt the console version that's used in Linux.
