Application won't start

Postby narf » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:32 am

Hello,

I am getting a error since today after reboot on my Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex machine when trying to run the PMS.sh file. See error below:

Code: Select all
[main] TRACE 00:27:16.980 Class not found: net.pms.newgui.update.AutoUpdateDialog
Header Chunk. Image width:256 height:256 depth:8 color type:6 compression type:0 filter type:0 interlace:0

   at net.pms.PMS.main(PMS.java:927)

It worked fine before but both 1.03 and 1.01 gave the same error. I was hoping the 1.03 would have helped but seems to be something else that is wrong. Any ideas?

well I thought I had fixed it but it's not the case ...
in the PMS.conf file, try to replace or add following line:

language = en

Hello thank you for a quick answer. I tried to add language = en to the old PMS.conf file however it still won't work.

On the other hand the 1.03 does not contain a PMS.conf in the package and so I tried to rerun from scratch with the same result (no PMS.conf file).

This seems to be some sort of runtime error however not 100% sure.

Btw....thank you for a great server application. :)

Another thing is this error in the debug.log file:

Code: Select all
[main] TRACE 18:14:49.848 Class not found: net.pms.newgui.update.AutoUpdateDialog

I had this very same problem with tar.gz-file downloaded from google site or from the official blog. I couldn't get it work. After few hours of trying I took a checkout from repository. After that I got it working. Use command line with following commands: (PS. You need subversion and ant to be installed before).

svn checkout http://ps3mediaserver.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ ps3mediaserver-read-only
cd ps3mediaserver-read-only/ps3mediaserver
ant
PMS.sh

Thanks. The SVN version works just fine.

I do wonder if it can have something to do with my java setup.

I noticed a little thing extra here that might be the cause of the problem actually. When checking the setup I have for $JAVA_HOME I got the answer I was using the Eclipse version of javac. Also when changing to:
Code: Select all
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.10/
then PMS was much happier

Could this be a problem where the java is not finding the class in the eclipse java?

Trying to understand the problem and now I can start the PMS server without using SVN version.
