Hmm i'm using pmsencoder 1.5.6 and I'm sure I tried the above, i.e. - init{} / $MENCODER re-define (in INIT.groovy) - and it didn't work. Now I do it using script{} / profile("Default"){} (in custom.groovy) with action{} / replace[]. Which is the future-proof way?

Hello. I have problm with nam files.

I install this .deb package

i have folder in /usr/share/pms-linux, /etc/pms-linux and file in /usr/bin/pms-linux

Not sure what the issue is from the subject of your post, but can I presume that you are using a debian based system and that you have not forced the installation of the the .deb on to a non-debian based system?

1) the PMS.sh file gets converted into the /usr/bin/pms-linux file in the debian package
2) No idea what autostart.sh is but you should have a file /etc/init.d/pms-linux (at least on debian) which is the init file that a) causes ps3ms to be executed at boot and b) allows you system-wide control of the service (i.e. starting and stoping it)

You haven't actually described what the problem is, so I can't help you anymore than that at the moment. Is the service failing to start at boot? Do you not know how to start ps3ms? (it should start immediately after installation - have you checked to see if you have a running java process with pms.jar?) or is this about pms not playing certain files with certain characters in them?

My PMS install got fubar'd... don't ask how.

The main problem now is that I uninstalled pms-linux wiped out the config files, but when I re-run passaid's installation script, it's not working properly. Symptoms include: lack of any icons visible from PS3 (folders show OK, just not files), and the /etc/init.d/pms-linux script has disappeared.

Any ideas on the best way to fix this?

What system and distribution are you running?
post your debug log and lets go from there.

Have you changed any of the default permissions on your system?

Here's my debug.log file. This is on a 64-bit Ubuntu 11.04 server (headless), 3GB Ram, dual-core P4 @ 3.2Ghz. I didn't change any permissions. The only thing I did was create a symlink for PMS.conf and WEB.conf.

Seems to have successfully re-installed, however now I have a different problem... most of my avi's get "The data type is not supported". I looked in the debug.log and ffmpeg seems to spit out an "invalid or inefficient vfw-avi packed B" message. These files worked before though

Weird part is, mkv's work fine. better than before actually.

AVI's play if I transcode them, but I don't want to transcode them all the time, especially if I know I didn't need to before

Made an account here JUST to say that I loved the script. I was really only looking for something quick and easy to stick into my init.d to autostart but since you put together a whole package I thought I'd give it a shot. Brilliant! Nicely done.

Ok, this is weird... Went away for the weekend, and when I came back, I re-started PMS and it works perfectly now. I saw someone else experience something similar, where they left it alone for a day or two, and it suddenly starts working perfectly.
