ISO image with latest PMS installed?

Postby takosan » Sun Jul 19, 2009 1:04 am

Does a Linux ISO image (any distro) with latest PMS exist?

Have an old P4 but no HDD so was wondering. I have the media I want to stream to a PS3 on USB external HDD (FAT32 & NTFS) so if there is an ISO I can burn to boot off CDR, I thought that will be least hassle?

Thank you,
Robert

Hi Robert,

None that I know of, but if your old P4 has a USB port, you could use the 'USB Start-up Disk Creator' from the Ubuntu 'Administration' menu. It will allow you to store additional programs on it after it's created. Then just download the media server software to that and you should be fine. Plus the USB should be faster than running a system off a CD (as long as you've a usb 2.0 port).

Good Luck!

ocean17,

That is a great idea.

I forgot that PMS, perhaps, needs to be able to write configs, etc.

I'll check out Ubuntu tonight! Thanks again for your input.

Glad to help!

And in fairness I'd forgotten about the added advantage of being able to write to the usb.
I was thinking of the speed boost :)
I suppose it would also allow you to keep up with the latest mencoder etc. versions without too much hassle & save you blank CDs.

Hope it goes easy!
