Samsung UN55B8000

Postby nhasian » Tue Jun 23, 2009 9:36 am

Hello,

I just found ps3mediaserver today and i'm very impressed! Thanks for the awesome software. It works great with my xbox360. I added StreamExtensions=avi so it doesnt need to transcode avi/divx files and it works great. also it transcodes mkv files and i can watch them too! This is soooo much easier to get up and running than ushare, mediatomb, or fuppes in linux. I'm running Ubuntu 64bit Karmic Koala Alpha2 and am using PS3 Media Server 1.11.345. I gotta get PS3 Media Server added to the ubuntu repositories :)

My only difficulty is with my Samsung UN55B8000 LCD TV. I only have one issue: Although avi files play, I am not sure how to get it to stream mkv files without transcoding them. This Samsung TV can play mkv x264 files natively.

I am happy to help test/debug software too.

Thanks in advance,

nhasian

Hi,

I have a similar question for m2ts, which should normally stream also without encoding. When I read about it, I found
the option "StreamExtensions=" for PMS.conf. Eventually, you could try to put "StreamExtensions=mkv" into your
config and give it a try...

BR,
Carsten.

Thanks i tried it but it still didnt stream to the samsung tv, and it also broke the mkv transcoding on the xbox360. I'm guessing adding the StreamExtensions= to the PMS.conf overrides the settings in the individual renderers. :?

I would be surprised if the mkv is supported on your TV (but maybe the H264 core video track is, like the ps3)

my Samsung UN55B8000 is awesome! 240hz, LED backlit, DLNA & internet enabled awesomeness. It has two USB ports, and i can connect either flash drives or usb hard disks, and yes it does play both avi, as well as mkv. I just havent figured out how to stream mkv to it yet from my computer. Even though the MSRP is $4000, if you shop around you can get it for around $3000 USD
