no seriously.
i just stumbled upon this late tonight (couldn't sleep) and thought i would give it a try. I've been dicking around with trying to get mkv's to play on my PS3 for almost a good solid year now. I needed something that was quick, painless, and kept the data on my linux server.
i can not believe how simple it was for me to get working. i downloaded the pms-linux-1.10.5.tgz file. opened it up. skimmed through the readme. ran PMS.sh. wen't back to PS3 to see that it was connected. tried to play mkv's. no dice. spent 10 mins searching through forums.
found the tip on "same problem, i'd solved unckecking switch to Tsmuxer... in mencoder settings. All mkv works great!" in this topic viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2100
and now I am streaming 720p mkvs straight to my PS3 without any stupid reencoding on my part or thumb drives or blah blah blah. and it took me about 30 mins.
it. just. works.
i love you guys.
