PMS on PS3 + Linux

Postby leis » Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:26 am

Hello all,

Just a humble question: Is there any possibility to run pms linux version on PS3+Linux?
From internet some people have installed fedora, ubuntu, debian(live), gentoo(live), yellow dog on PS3.

Hope its okay to do so.
Thanks

It may run, but
a) I don't think the Linux installs on the PS3 are allowed access to many resources, meaning transcoding is probably a no go, and maybe not even run
b) I'm pretty sure the PS3 won't allow you to have the OS running while playing video media from the XMB, especially from a media server, although I haven't confirmed this
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

thanks for your replying.

for the first point, i believed that some software that were running under yellowdog can access PS3 hardware resources; just referenced from CE-10 (software + ps3 hardward H.264 encoding), yes we all know it depends how much that someone has to pay sony for tech. support and developement kit.
for the second point, yes it is a big issue.

still wish if there's someway to put pms+linux running underground xmb.
