PS3 not detected / Mandriva 2009.1

Postby gogogo » Tue May 19, 2009 1:35 am

Hi there,

I have discovered this freeware 2 days ago and was amazed by its simplicity, especially on Window.
Indeed, i first tried to have on MAndriva 2009.1 but the PS3 was not detected so i then tried on Window and
it worked at the first try.
HOwever i would like it to work on Mandriva 2009.1 as well but i am a bit new with Linux.
From the archive dowloaded, i dble click on the PMS.sh file and the freeware open and starts looking for my ps3 but never achieves it and
i remain stucked with that red cross and the question "PS3 wasnt found. Is it on?..."

The traces i show are as follow:

Do you have any ideas; From my research into the forum i think it might have to do with opening the PC in my port but 1/i am not sure and 2/i dont know how to do it.
Could you help me solving this problem?
Thanks

Make sure your wireless is on the same network are you connecting to the same network?

check your ps3 ip address and see if you can ping it from your laptop.

Hi zaphod778,

Thanks for your reply. I went into newtork setting and saw the ip adress was 192.168.2.2 so ive opened a shell
ping 192.1168.2.2 and i have the below, so i guess the ps3 and the pc are communicating.

--- 192.168.2.2 ping statistics ---
16 packets transmitted, 16 received, 0% packet loss, time 15284ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.722/0.882/1.446/0.227 ms

Regarding if i am connecting on the same network, i am wireless and use a router for my laptop connection. The ps3 is wired to the router.
Is that what you want ?

You should be ok regarding network since its 192.168.2.X on both machines.

Maybe this link can help: http://linuxbsdos.com/2008/10/15/mandriva-linux-2009-firewall/

Thans top guy, the firewall was guilty as when i removed it the ps3 was detected. However even if i am on linux (not window) i'd rather keep a firewall, so i am looking for
which option(s) to allow (so not the first one):
- evereything (no firewall)
- web server
- domain name server
- SSH server
- FTP server
- mail server
- POP and IMAP server
- echo request (ping)
- bit torrent

[edit] keeping the firewall but letting the port 5001/tcp, it works.
still, just for my personnal information:
- what is the relation between the ps3 and the computer? so that if i choose the correct combination of optios it will work too. indeed, when testing each one is not working.

Thanks

All the standard options in the firewall assumes standard services over standard ports. PMS is not one of them, and can be configured to run on any port you want. So you will always need to open the correct port manually like you just have done.
