PS3 Media Server

Running on a Ubuntu 9.04 on a Core 2 Duo @ 1.66Ghz with 2Gb RAM and experiencing huge amounts of stuttering to the point where watching videos is impossible, every couple of seconds the video will freeze, audio will continue for a short time before pausing, then video catches up. This repeats over and over.

I'm running latest Mplayer/Mencoder, FFmpeg was installed from repo

Conky shows my CPU hardly being used, it never goes above 6% even when watching video??

Audio Bitrate is set to 256
Maximum Bandwidth 14mb/s
Video Quality: keyint=25:vqmax=8:vqmin=3 /* Low quality, Low-end CPU or HD Wifi Transcoding */

Any ideas??

Yeah.. you really should tell us what kind of video you are trying to stream.

Nothing HD, mostly if not all are .avi.

Can be related to the network.
Are you wired or using wifi ?
The PS3 wifi chip is quite crapy, so I decided to use a good old cable and no lacks/desync since then.

Wireless, I get about 80% signal on both my laptop and the PS3.
