These things are usually caused by the version of Java you have installed.

Give us the result of "java -version".

$ sudo java -version
java version "1.5.0"
gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.3.2

It's something with my config or the java my system is pointing to. I run aptitude install sun-java6-jre but no matter what it shows java -version "1.5.0"
I did aptitude remove sun-java6-jre and it still shows java -version as being "1.5.0"
Any ideas on where to look to look to fix that?

I got it.
On Debian Lenny
aptitude install sun-java6-jdk

run this command to fix which java version it points too:
sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun

Thank you for the pointer.

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_12"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
