/usr/bin/ps3mediaserver is PMS.sh. It's a script, not a directory. Run it as described at the end of the FAQ post and post the output.txt along with the debug.log or JVM error file.

Fixed but now I get another error saying it can't find mplayer. This didn't happen before when I ran it as sudo... here's the new log

First of all, please don't copy and paste whole logfiles. Upload them to pastebin as has already been requested.

Second, your server has no hostname (add a name (a single word) to /etc/hostname and reboot the server).

Third, the fact that you ran PMS as root ("This didn't happen before when I ran it as sudo") might well be why it's broken. Try reinstalling:

As I said, don't run PMS as a service while troubleshooting.

If you can't launch PMS by running /usr/bin/ps3mediaserver as an ordinary user, your system is not set up properly and the snapshot jar won't work. If you need help with the PPA, post in the PPA thread.

Woot after a bunch of trouble (reinstalling, cleaning out config files, changing hostname to 'localhost', general stuff lol) I managed to get it to run smoothly from command line

Experimenting with running as service and seems better! Thanks a TON for all your help dude! Really appreciate it!!

Just updating the situation,

Everything seems perfect now. The server has been running straight for the last 4 days and have always been able to access it when I try. Seems to be fixed
