Sound is staticky when playing movies on PS3

Postby lobstar » Sun May 20, 2012 8:37 pm

Hi,

I have a strange issues regarding the playing of movies on my PS3. The sound is either loud solid static, or a high pitched whine. None of the actual audio plays. TV shows play normally without issue. I was previously using the installer from paissad (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5589), however I was finding that some videos wouldn't play at all, so I switched over to the PPA version (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13046).

The affected movies seem to only be .mkv / x264 (Again, tv episodes of the same type play fine) . The issue happens when I us tsMuxeR or Mencoder

OK, On to the technical details

1) Processor: AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2600+ || RAM: 2GB || OS: Ubuntu Server 12.04LTS || Ps3ms Ver: 1.51.0+git+mencoder34587-3precise6
2) Streaming to PS3 using standard .conf file
3) Server (10/100) -> Switch (10/100) -> Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway (10/100/1000) -> switch (10/100/1000) -> PS3
4) I have tried all available transcoders, with the same result

Mediainfo output for an example file (Also the one in the debug log)

I guess you are using TV speakers for audio playback. Disable "Keep DTS track (no re-encode)" checkbox (Common transcode settings) in this case, then save configuration.

Sweet! That worked perfectly. Thank you.

Is there a setting in the config file to set that automatically. I am using a headless box, and when ps3ms is restarted, the setting reverts back to checked.

Thanks again happy.neko

The option is
Code: Select all
embed_dts_in_pcm = false

But you should check why settings are not persistent. Open /etc/default/ps3mediaserver file and make sure PMS_USER points to your current user (not root) and PMS_PROFILE is set to /home/USER/.config/ps3mediaserver
