I am having some trouble streaming x264 mkv files to my PS3 and TV (Samsung).
The video "stutters" on the PS3 and aborts on the TV.
I have installed PMS on my "homeserver" which is a very basic system running CentOS 6.2.
CPU: Intel Celeron e1400 (2 cores, 2 GHz)
Mem: 4 GB
And a couple of harddrives for storage.
PMS seems to work OK, it gets picked up by the Samsung tv and the PS3.
Everything is wired with CAT6 and running at 1Gbps.
Xvid video's and mp3's seem to stream fine, but the larger mkv files stutter (3d sbs movies).
I noticed that the mencoder process uses a lot of CPU power.
Could it be that my CPU is not fast enough? I could upgrade to an core-2-duo, but that will that be fast enough?
Does it make any sence to add an GPU to the system? Like an HD3870 or an GTX285?
However, I noticed that some are trying to install PMS on simple NAS boxes, aren't they even slower than my system?
