Oracle's Java To Be Removed

Postby DolbyTrueHD » Sun Dec 18, 2011 4:08 pm

Found this topic in my news feed, wondering how this will effect PS3 media server.

Oracle’s Sun Java JDK packages are to be removed from the Ubuntu partner repositories and disabled on users systems.

Java is required, so yes, PMS will be affected for people not aware of what has happened. However, that's just disabling the automatic install. You can (per the article) still install the Sun packages manually and everything be just fine.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

Here is the Wiki about this problem :
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/Relea ... Transition
PMS : 1.40 with only TsMuxer engine enabled
OS/Hardware : Linux Ubuntu 10.04 on a "weak" but very useful "MSI Wind U100" netbook !

Actually Ubuntu 11.10 is shipped with OpenJDK preinstalled and PS3MS works with it just fine. So absence of sun-jre is not a problem.
