It works fine for those that already have it installed with 12.04 and upgrade to 12.10, just not the PPA (yet).

Oh. Not good. PMS 1.6 was with issues, but this 1.7 very problematic. However described as revolution ...

Only avi files video works. With mkv big issues and the same with m2ts. TsMuxeR failed at all ...

If you are on 12.04 U - better hold on with these versions ...

Strange is how many errors/defects reported. Looks that version 1.7 needs to be Beta. Not official release.

The best described above problem is described on Issue 1532: There is no inputstream to return for any mkv [tsMuxeR]

Hope that will be fixed soon ...

Ubuntu packages for ps3mediaserver 1.71.0 are up.

As usual do
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ps3mediaserver
or wait for Update manager notification.

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 server (headless) and I can't get PMS to work at all. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...

1 - Since the server is headless, I can not initially run it in 'GUI' mode. Running as a daemon doesn't work. It looks like it crashes immediately.
2 - I can run /usr/bin/ps3mediaserver and it seems to run just fine

Code: Select all
PMS_START="yes"
PMS_USER="ps3ms"
PMS_PROFILE="/home/$PMS_USER/.config/ps3mediaserver"

Code: Select all
leslie@mediaserver:~$ sudo start ps3mediaserver
ps3mediaserver start/running, process 6469
leslie@mediaserver:~$ sudo status ps3mediaserver
ps3mediaserver stop/waiting

Running like this doesnt give me any files in "/var/log/ps3mediaserver" as well..

I was poking around and found the following lines in the /var/log/upstart/ps3mediaserver.log

Code: Select all
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Too small initial heap
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Too small initial heap

Apparently this is a java problem, but doesnt explain why it works when manually running from /usr/bin

Code: Select all
java version "1.7.0_09"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.3.3) (7u9-2.3.3-0ubuntu1~12.10.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode)

Well, I fixed the problem. Turns out that a line in the file /etc/default/ps3mediaserver was incorrect:

Code: Select all
PS3MS_MEM="xxx"

This was passing an incorrect value (which defaults to kb) of memory for the JVM. I fixed it by making this small change:

Code: Select all
PS3MS_MEM="1536m"

Very strange. PS3MS_MEM="768M" should be default value in /etc/default/ps3mediaserver after install.

libc6 is already the newest version.

What should I do in this case?

I had this same problem. It does not appear that debian sid or debian wheezy come with libc6, therefore, it makes it almost impossible to install now (1.71). I was able to install PMS 1.50 using a different instruction... I would really like to be able to compile this using libc6 2.13 because that's all I can find for my wheezy installation.
Could someone shine some more light on this, please?
