Scripting the stop and start of PMS

Postby sharky48 » Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:50 am

Dear all,

I've installed PMS as a service on my WHS.
I want to stop and start the service every 24 hour.
I created a simple .cmd file with the text net stop pms and net start pms.

When PMS became instable, I noticed mutiple instances of mencoder.exe on my server.
I killed them and everthing was fine again.

So I'm gonna add kill.exe -f mencoder.exe
And maybe kill.exe -f java.exe to the script.

Has anyone any experience with this? Some thoughts and tips are welcome.

That's a really good idea; you would start with a fresh PMS every day!

I've noticed that most of the times, when I shut down the program (either its standalone application or the service), the process javaw32.exe stays running, and, for example, I can't delete the log files in the installation folder, so I'm assuming it's the PMS instance that's using it. So I go and kill it manually, and after that, I can delete the logs.

I tell you this because you might want to include this too

Good luck with your idea

What i've got so far is:
Stop the PMS service.
kill mencoder.exe
kill javaw.exe

I did also notice multiple java processes when i was playing around with the starting and stopping.
Don't know when it's javaw or java32. I must look into that.
