Why is H.264 video without subs transcoded?

Postby abhijeet » Wed Mar 04, 2009 1:39 pm

The PS3 has native decoding for MPEG-4/H.264 video. If there are no subtitles, why does the server transcode the video to MPEG-2? Is there a way to remux the video without transcoding?

Thanks!

you should check with mediainfo what settings have been used to encode the video. Usually the 2 biggest culprits are the H264 level (no more than L4.1) and reference frames that have been set too high and can only be played on PC as a result
