Transcoding TO h264

Hi all,

I was wondering... What if PMS could transcode the files to h.264? I know that this kind of encoding is heavy and slow, but I ask this because I want to archive some movies in the PS3 internal HDD, with subtitles, but I don't want to do this using MPEG-2 format because it's too big. I know it could not be streamed to PS3 without loosing frames in real time, but it could be great to have an option to enable the transcoding to h.264 to copy files to PS3 for archive.

why not but imho you will have much better results with encoding your movie first on your computer with any tool, then simply copy it to the ps3

I don't know if you have the same problem, but when I encode from H264 to H264 (to paste the subtitles) it takes FOREVER (around 3 frames/s).

I have a Macbook Dual Core 2Ghz with 2GB RAM and Elgato Turbo.264.
