CoreAVC 1.9.0 better than MencoderMT

Postby tomei » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:37 am

The recent update of coreavc has made using Avisynth/Mencoder better than mencoder for me. It uses Nvidia cuda acceleration on avc/h.264 using hardware of your GPU. Now most 1080p use very little CPU usage. I suggest you all try it out for people that have problems with stuttering on 1080p mkv encoded in avc/h.264. Make sure you use the 182.05 beta drivers to get cuda acceleration working. It is highly recommend for people with slow cpus. :D

Oh, only Nvidia GPUs that support cuda works for now.

I don't have Nvidia card... and coreavc Pro is real Scrap for me : With Core2duo cpu1 run 20% and cpu2 70% !!! where ffdshow use a nice 35% on two cores.
mencoder (not MT) is the really amazing engine for me... paired with the other amazing klite codecs packs 4.5.3

Hi
I have CoreAVC 1.8.5 installed but it doesn't show anywhere in PMS or PS3. How can I configure PMS to use CoreAVC. I'm atisfied with Mencoder but i'd like to test CoreAVC too.

Start->Programs->FFDShow->Video Decoder Configuration->Codecs and Change H.264/AVC to disabled.

use mediaplayer classic to be sure, when you play movie "right mouse clic" and you will see coreavc in "filters" option

Hi tomei and anyone who uses new CoreAVC 1.9.0 with CUDA graphicscard.

I have installed CoreAVC 1.9.0 and installed the NVIDIA 182.05 beta drivers and playing an mkv 1080p on my PC this reduced the CPU on my dual Core ( with a 8600 GTS) to only 5 % load...From 60 % before !!!!
My playback on the PS3 of the 1080p video is running very smoothly now. no stuttering anymore.
However, i have a question.

When playing the mkv on my PC the coreAvc tray icons turns into green as designed. This shows, that CUDA is enabed..
When streaming from PS3 the tray icon stays blue, which indicates CUDA is not used....

Not sure, that CUDA really is turned on / supported when using PMS.
I'm using Avisynth/Mencoder.
Whith Mencoder only or TSmuxer neither the AVC tray icon nor the Haali tray icon is shown at all...

Could you please check if your AVC tray icon turns into green, when using PMS ??

Cheers.

Hi,
i have checked this again and found out, that this behaviour was only with the CoreAVC standard Trial release.
With full proffesional version this works now...
I reduced the CPU load with mencoder_mt from almost 99 % to 60 % and playback of 1080p content is flawless.

this is definely worth to look at for people using a supported graphics card.

Thanks tomei for letting us know.

Cheers,

I'm not convinced this is even necessary with the latest builds of PMS since they're not specifically transcoding MKV by default. Can someone confirm?
