PMS"Rendr Edition" - BD Live players as streaming clients

Postby otmanix » Sat Aug 15, 2009 6:32 pm

A firm "Ray in blu" made a patched version of PMS called "PS3 Media Server - Rendr Edition": http://grayzilla.com/rayinblu/ps3mediaserver
They also offer a software called "Rendr" which can be installed on BD Live capable players. This software seems to be a DLNA client, compatible with modified version of PMS. Beta of Rendr is available for free: http://grayzilla.com/rayinblu/
The howto lists BD Live campatible Players from LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung and Sony.

Update:

Dear Otmanix,

We have updated our site to accept orders from a large number of countries including Germany. The beta release is scheduled for October 17, 2009 and Beta discs will be shipped by that date or sooner.

Please note that the correct URL for our site is http://www.rayinblu.com (the URL you had used was a testing version of our site). Please revisit our site for status updates and other helpful information.

We thank you for your interest in Rendr. Please use our forums at http://www.rayinblu.com/forum for questions or feedback. We would appreciate your help in spreading the word.

Hi Redlum,

I didn't see any difference when testing their compiled version (1.10.51) today. I didn't patch rev356 source code.

More infos of PMS Rendr edition here: http://www.rayinblu.com/ps3mediaserver
Patch for PMS here: http://www.rayinblu.com/sites/default/files/downloads/pms-rendr.zip It includes a patch file, some files for new media renderers (their DLNA java client for BD live players called Rendr), a convert.exe (imagemagick 6.5.3) and a tsmuxer.exe (1.10.6).

Best regards, Otmanix

Does this version have any benefits when not using ray in blu?

I don't see an advantage for PS3 users. Tomeko wrote about improvements when using Sony Bravia tv as renderer.
For users without a console or tv with streaming capabilities or streaming client like PopcornHour... but with a BD live Player it is an advantage. Spend 20$, start this java app on your BD live Player and extend the features to streaming support...

I ordered a free beta-CD to see how it works...

Looking forward to testing this. Big advantage i can see is power consumption and noise. although I'm fortunate to have managed to get a very quiet PS3 the fan nosie is still noticeable whereas my Sony S350 BD player is silent and also uses way less power.

look interesting but you can not truly order a beta disk. It seems you are asking to be part of the beta program and if accepted (based on make/model), you will get a disk. I base this on the message displayed after I gave all of my personal details.

Lets hope they are not simply collecting marketing addresses
