System Specs and software versions; what works!

Postby bdiddy » Fri Apr 10, 2009 8:50 pm

HI, can we get a list of system specs from all of you? It would be nice to see what setup works. Here's mine.

Supermicro X7DA8
2 Xeon 5410 at 2.33ghz (that's 8 cores :D )
10gb RAM
1 TB sata II drive dedicated storage
1 gigabits network connection to switch, then 1 gigabits connection to PS3
windows server 2008 x64

PMS 1.10.51
java 6 update 13
Core AVC 1.9
Avisynth 2.58 with VSfilter.dll loaded
ffdshow rev 2734 XXL
Haali media splitter 1.9.42.1
VLC .9.8a

Comment: Using Avisynth/Mencoder engine. 720p, 1080p mkv's run smooth with settings MAXED out on PMS. 600mb buffer stays full, no cap on bandwidth.

That's not a server, that's SkyNet. It's surely about become sentient and send cyborg killing machines to the past to wipe out mankind. :geek:

If that's the kind of hardware I am going to need to stream HD, I'm giving up now

I'm using it for many other purposes (virtualization, iscsi storage, etc..) This is not totally dedicated to streaming.

actually I think you don't even need a buffer with such a computer ;)

Guys you think an Intel Atom system with 2 gigs of RAM could run PMS smoothly? I mean okay i guess SD videos would play okay, but what about HD? You think it would be able to handle 720p/1080p transcoding?

For those who don't know/remember: Atom is a HyperThreading, mini-atx platform clocked at 1.6Ghz.

A file server with that low consumption working with PMS would be a dream... :D

AMD Phenom II 940BE
4GB RAM
Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H mobo
100 wired

1080p streams like charm with 90mbit/s max bandwith. 600MB buffer stays at 100% almost all of the time. PMS rule!

Streaming from an Intel i7 920 (4 cores hyper-threaded)
with 1TB for media storage and 6GB of RAM. On Vista x64.
<5% cpu utilization while transcoding 1080p lol.
Over wired lan. No problem at all. Love PMS :)

I'm running Windows Server 2008 on an Atom 330 based Intel Desktop Board D945GCLF2 w/ 2GB RAM, 7200 RPM 80GB HDD with a gigabit 1TB NAS device on a gigabit network. PS3 Media Server works well.

Default settings do cause stuttering on 720p media, but if the buffer is set to 600 and the MEncoder option for enhanced multicore support are configured, then it seems to play anything I've thrown at it. Not too bad for a system smaller than my PS3.
