for me i prefer using my bravia,
1. less power from using 1 device instead of 2,
2. no noise from fan (ps3 slim fan is even louder then liberty model imo), hence you can watch something in complete silence.
3. the only codec i really could use is mkv which it doesnt have but avi/mp4 it does. mkv it needs to transcode, but then again so does ps3.
4. it detects my tv at 86mbit which has yet to be a issue i have the limit for bitrate set to 0 (unlimited) and lossless settings (5,1,1) though i dont have any 1080p, 720p works fine. i prefer 720p at this stage mostly due to my server cpu.
when purchasing a tv you make sure you purchase one that does have good media server support. my bravia hx (2012) is amazing. so was my w5500 (2009) even though the browsing on it was slower this has thankfully been fixed with my 2012 model bravia.
overall and i can honestly say since using both renderers for a long time, i prefer to use my tv over my ps3 for this function.
so happy ps3 media server has such wide support for many devices, which is a tribute to such a great program i have loved for many years...
