Thats suprising that you can play the bird scene on a Core2Duo, i also have a Dual Core but AMD and there is no chance!

Before recently swapping in this Q9650 I had an e6600 and found that if I did nothing major on my PC while streaming everything was good, but if I loaded up a game, another video, anything intensive then it all went to hell. With this new setup, no more of that, I can do what I want while streaming anything, runs without a hitch.

OK, I've run PS3 Media Server on the following configurations and thought I'd post my results. I've tested against the Big Bunny and Killer videos available in this thread:

NETWORK: Gigabit
RESULTS: Begins to stutter towards the end of the Killer sample, you can see the PS3 Media Server buffer empty, CPU simply cannot keep up with the high bit rate.

I do not understand why, my system is very similar (as posted above, E6600 2.4@3Ghz 4Gb ram, P5K Deluxe, Linksys router wifi and 10/100 RJ45 ports.

I had a lot of stuttering while using wireless to PS3, as soon as I got it connected with a a cable everything is fine. Going to check with the "killer sample", just in case... And I am going to check CPU load too.

I do not usually have the PC doing stuff while watching movies in the living room. If i notice problems maybe this is the excuse for another "small upgrade"

Intel Core i7 940, o/c to 3.2GHz (will probably o/c it to 3.6GHz at some point), Windows 7 64bit beta, 6GB low-latency DDR3, GTX280, and 4.5TB of storage.

Needless to say, this is working just fine; it doesn't even blink when asked to do 1080p, even if you're already playing one on the machine and doing anything else. I might just try and see what happens if I start playing Crysis at the same time, heh...

The E5200 has less L2 cache and runs at a slower front side bus, so that may contribute to his stuttering when playing high def content. I would recommend a minimum 1333mhz Front side bus when trying to stream 1080p content.

Mi current pc is too old. I wanna buy a new one and would like to recive all your advices about what configuration you would buy. In all the shops I´m asking, they don,t know about this program (pMS) and they says, i must ask about the better confifuration for it.

Basically, I,ll use the new one with this program, but I want it´ll run "perfect" at 1080, and obviously, I prefer to make a little higher inversion, and getting a good computer for some years.

The films will be streamed throught ethernet in a Cat-5E. The router is tipe G, but it´ll have a switch of 1Gb

I´ll would appreciate all your opinion, because you really know about pc, about ps3 and about this great progam.

In the beggining, I had though about:

After, talking with the shop´s owner (who doesn´t know about this program), she says that, maybe, the program wasn´t programed for working perfect at 64bits, and in that case, it would be smarter, decide about a pc of the type Quad at 32.

I don´t know too much about computers. I wanna buy one, that allows me seening 1080 perfect, without nothing of stuttering, and at the same time, it runs with other works (like downloading another files, working in the web...)

Stick with the I7 build, the i7 has more then enough power to hold you over for the next few years. Get triple channel DDR3 3 or 6gb, I would get nothing less then DDR3 1800.

The rest is up to you, raid 0 will get you the best hard drive performance but you would require two identical drives.

Macbook Pro (early 2008, 2.4GHz, 2GB, GF8600M GT), running Leopard 10.5.6, owning an 80GB PS3, router is LinkSys WRT54GL. I connect wirelessly from laptop (PS3 is wired).

I had to change "Change networking on interface" option to find my PS3, after that PMS works flawlessly. I also turned on multicore support, no problems at all. Subtitles work, I can scan (not perfect, but good enough) movies forward, no artefacts etc. I can also watch 1080p mkv movies without a problem, but I had to set Maximum bandwidth because otherwise it stutters every few minutes. But setting it to same speed as it is using without the limit, does the trick. If it changes the quality... I didn't notice anything and am watching this on a fullHD 1080p LCD, picture is sharp and clear.
