How can I tell if a file needs transcoding ...

How can I definitively tell when a file will play without transcoding, and when does it need it.

For example, I have a movie in 2 parts. I looked through mediainfo, and they look almost exactly alike. Playing through PS3MS, cd1 never plays and cd2 always plays without transcoding! Can someone spot a difference?

Is there a check I can make on my desktop to confirm that I can play a movie without transcoding?

not real differences, but it's a known fact that ps3 does not like some AVI headers (why? dunno)... running AVI mux gui usually helps

Thanks for the tip. I have used Super or other tools for remuxing, will try avimux in the future. Was just wondering if there was a way to check on this error before I sit down to watch a movie.

Is there a possibility that some movies can be played directly on PS3 (via a usb stick/drive) but not without transcoding via PS3MS?
