you really gotta love the internet, my ps3 today wouldnt turn on and just beeped 3 times and yellow light came on so i googled and found a youtube fix after following it and about 1 hr of work my ps3 now works again haha. if anyone else has this problem its easily fixed with a bit of work.

You must have one of the older PS3s from when they first came out. I still have my old one that got the YLOD. Have a new one that works. Apparently the newer models don't get this problem. Idk I would send in my old one to get it fixed, but I don't think it's worth $99 to have it fixed and then get the YLOD a couple weeks later.

lol it lasted a day and died on me again atleast i copied all my saves, so i convinced my parents to get me a new one since i got it from my birthday years ago and i use it alot haha i got the slim 160 now cost me 1/2 the price my old ps3 cost it was a fat 40gb one. yeah the ylod doesnt happen on the slim because of that problem, it could still happen but not from the problem it happend to the old models the cpu/gpu seperating from the board, they fixed it.. thats the good thing bout warrentys they see what goes wrong alot and fix it so they dont have to keep fixing them lol.

just for your information, whilst frying your PS3 motherboard with a heat gun might fix the YLOD, unless you use proper reflow temperature profiles, don't expect it to last very long.
The only decent way is to use a dedicated BGA reballing station, but as availability to one of these is outside the grasp of the majority, make sure you get your data/saves off your PS3 ASAP then invest in a new one!
