MP4 streaming (No Encode or Encode)

So i am streaming mp4's to my ps3 and have 2 options. Both work great, but I was wondering which is better.

1. stream mp4 with no encoding (it is clean, but cant have subtitles)

2. reencode with mencoder: has switch to tmuxer when mp4 and no subtitles

so whats the point of using mencoder/tmuxer VS no encode on mp4's?

besides being able to have subtitles on them, does mencoder/tmuxer yeild better quality?
