Is USB 2.0 fast enough?

I am new to using the PS3 media server and I have a question about and external HD. I have a 2 TB external USB 2.0 attached to my computer running PS3MS. The PS3 is wired using CAT6. When I run straight from the computer HD there is no problem, but on a few movies on the external HD after about 20 minutes into the movie I am getting some skips and pauses where the audio keeps going. To me it seems like some sort of transcodeing or uploading problem because if I pause the movie for a few minutes it works for a few minutes and then starts again.

Yes, 2.0 should be more than fast enough.
