Streaming over a VPN.

Postby richielee » Tue Mar 10, 2009 4:13 pm

Hi - First of all - TOP program - gets used everyday - best by far,

Secondly, Streaming over a VPN....Anyone know if this is possible?

My brother and I both have PS3's (in different houses) and I was wonder if it was 'doable' to share my media with him.
I've set up a vpn to my brothers pc using hamachi and mapped my video folder to a drive letter on his network.
I've added the folder on his PS3 media server and I can brows it on his PS3.

Wont play video tho - comes up with an error on his ps3 (he's not made a note of the error yet).
It did however play an MP3.I'm not sure if our connection is man enough, we're both on VM's 20mb connection.

I guess I'm asking if it's even possible and is this the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance

I think that you probably have chosen good method for doing what you want. But I expect that the extra overhead from standard filesharing in windows and the use of Hamachi cuts that 20Mb/s down to something that is not usable for anything else than mp3s.

I unfortunatly dont have any viable alternatives for you either.
